  Hi guys, As promised, this is part of the Places of interest series, and this week's Earth theme. I thought that I would choose stone circles for the Earth week, and we have plenty of those in Cornwall. Here I an concentrating on just two. Pictured above is a painting by Jo Endean of Duloe Stone Circle. Located in the village of Duloe, not far from Liskeard, this place is special to us, as it is where Joe and I got handfasted.  Duloe stone circle is located in a field, and consists of eight upright white quartz, or quartzite, stones, and is the smallest stone circle in Cornwall. In the 1800s a hedge was removed from the middle of the circle, apparently a Bronze Age urn was found, which contained remains of a cremated human skeleton, although this cannot be verified. There are no aligning geographical features nor other sites of interest in view, so it is posited that this was erected as a Bronze Age memorial, or burial cairn.  The circle appears on and Ordinance Su...

So, when I said I was going to look at  Places of Interest  , I was going to start with Stonehenge, I mean, it's iconic! But Cat advised me to stay local, so I'm going to look at Bodmin instead. History dates back to before the doomsday book (entry in 1086) when Bodmin was already a flourishing market town. History can be traced back to the 6th Century AD, possibly earlier, and St Guron was said to reside in a hermitage on the site where the current church stands. In 518 AD, St Petroc moved inland from Padstow, allegedly following an Angel. He joined St Guron and moved his monastery to Bodmin, where he resided as prior of Bodmin until his death in 564. Bodmanach - the abode of the monks. Believed to be where Bodmin town got it's name from. There is a reliquary of St Petroc within the church that bears his name, that has been stolen and returned at least twice!   Hello all!  As you can tell from the title, we are starting yet another series. I am going to call this one Places of Interest.  I got the above photo from Adobe online, although we have visited this beautiful place in person. This is just one of the sites we will cover. I aim to start local, after all, there are plenty of sites in Cornwall, but we will include some of the bigger and well known sites. I am personally drawn to the Nazcar lines in Peru, so that will be one that will be covered, and, if we can get through the many myths, places such as Atlantis.... Maybe..... I think, in order to make it either slightly easier, or slightly more complicated depending on your point of view, that there will be sub-categories: Wells Stone works Ancient Settlement Burial Chamber Battleground Haunted Site Mythological Place Ancient Civilisation There may well be more as we go along!
